Leona Helmsley Wannabe

Mr. Daschle, former majority leader in the Senate, was accustomed to having a driver and car available to him 24/7. He did not think about it as a taxable event.

Elitist? Doesn't everyone have perks like this? Tom claims he only used it about 20% for personal use. So he overlooked filing the value of $255,000 on his taxes for '05, '06, and '07 for the percentage of personal use of the driver and car. No big deal. Honest mistake.

But there's more that I consider unethical. Mr. Daschle has earned more than $5 million over the past two years, including $200,000 from the health-care industry he's been nominated to regulate.

He was a lobbyist. I guess if you are or were a lobbyist and you are a Democrat, it's just fine with President Obama. Does anyone else smell double standard?

'til later
