Ethnic Based?

Obama's new judge is Latino. She's empathetic. Those are the two selling points. Dare the Republicans find a voice against her nomination it will because she was a Latino and empathetic. Suicide for the party.

How come it doesn't work that way for the Dems?

George W. Bush nominated Estrado to the appellate court and he was denied. Samuel Alito was denied consideration to the Supreme Court. His father's choice of Clarence Thomas was raked over the coals in 1991.

Latinos and African-Americans to the court. The Dems can reject these people for little more than their skin color and yet it does no damage to their popularity with minorities.

The GOP fears the loss (they don't carry them ever) minorities and unlikely will voice any opposition at the hearings ahead.

Dr. King wanted his little children judged by the content of their character and not the color of their skin. Will/can we ever get past race?

Sonia Sotomayor thinks it OK to discriminate against white and Hispanic firemen in Connecticut. She judged against their character and judged them the wrong color. No African-Americans passed the tests.

All we hear is the first Latino on the highest court. Not because the GOP didn't try. It should lie at the feet of Dems that they denied the first Latino nominated.
